“Motorsports represent one of the most exciting and most thrilling forms of entertainment to watch and to participate in. That being said, there are quite a few different kinds of motorsports available and some are a lot harder than others. Rallies are probably the most extreme ones you can find as their goal is to push the cars to their absolute limits and see which one comes out on top. Even so, there are a few rallies that stand above the rest in terms of toughness and difficulty.
1. Dakar Rally
Might as well start off with the most famous and most grueling rally in the world. The Dakar Rally is an off-road race which takes place every year, beginning in Paris and ending in Dakar, Senegal. This used to be the case, although the route was modified in 2009, going through South America instead and has remained that way ever since. The race is open to both pros and amateurs, but only a small percentage actually ends up finishing the rally.
2. The Great African Run
This rally is also known as Budapest-Bamako since those are the starting and finishing points. It has now become the largest amateur rally in the world. It is considered by some to be a low-budget version of the Dakar rally as it is intended strictly for amateurs. Even so, it is quite a difficult race as it goes across the Sahara desert.
3. Rallye Des Pharaons
This is another rally which is similar to the Dakar in terms of the format, but on a much smaller scale. It takes place only in Egypt and the Great Pyramids of Giza in Cairo act as both the starting point and the finishing line.
